Circle Trail Committee

The Santa Cruz Circle Trail was created by a citizen initiative. Sylvia Knapton conceived of a trail through the Santa Cruz Greenbelt that would showcase the area’s natural beauty and ecological diversity. She brought the idea to Paul Lee of USA (United Services Agency). Together, they formed the Circle Trail Committee which studied, planned, and pushed the concept through the Sant Cruz City Council. A feasibility study was conducted by the National Park Service, Rivers, Trails and Conservation Assistance Program, Western Region. The Trail was officially designated on National Trails Day, June 3, 1995. It is supported by the City of Santa Cruz. A fund exists to accept donations for trail maintenance and signage. Anyone wishing to donate, please contact Paul Lee (e-mail drpalee@aol.com), United Services Agency, 131 Spring Street, Santa Cruz, CA 95060. Phone (831) 469-3384.
